Focus: The birth partner’s key role in protecting oxytocin, supporting calm, and advocating for a positive birth experience.

Week One: Foundations of Calm + Connection

Theme: Understanding the Physiology of Birth + The Power of Partnership

🔹 What is hypnobirthing? A gentle, grounded approach to childbirth
🔹 The role of the nervous system: calm vs. fear in labour
🔹 The oxytocin effect: how safety, trust, and presence support birth
🔹 The birth partner as protector of space + energy
🔹 Creating a shared birth vision
🔹 Introduction to breathing, touch, and relaxation tools

Partner focus:

  • Not “coaching” the birth, but holding and protecting the emotional environment

  • Learning to recognise and respond to tension or fear

  • Practice: short relaxation and grounding techniques as a pair

Take-home:

  • Birth prep journaling prompts (partner + birthing person)

  • 10-minute guided relaxation audio

  • Mini “oxytocin checklist” for the birth environment

Week Two: Advocacy + Oxytocin in Action

Theme: The Birth Partner as Advocate + Emotional Anchor

🔹 Birth settings, interventions, and choices: creating a birth plan that flexes
🔹 Understanding the flow of labour and what may disrupt it
🔹 How partners can preserve oxytocin in clinical settings (e.g. hospital)
🔹 Scripts + practice: asking questions, slowing down decisions, holding space
🔹 Comfort measures: counter pressure, massage, affirmations, and movement

Partner focus:

  • Confidence in speaking up and creating calm when pressure or panic rise

  • The “oxytocin bubble”: protecting energy, tone, privacy

  • Roleplay: navigating a tricky birth conversation with gentleness and clarity

Take-home:

  • Customisable birth preferences template (with gentle wording)

  • Cheat sheet: phrases for advocacy, calming, and boundary-setting

  • Affirmations + breathwork card pack for labour

Week Three: Rehearsal + Postnatal Support

Theme: Bringing It All Together: Confidence, Rhythm, and Recovery

🔹 Walk through the stages of labour together using real-time tools
🔹 Rehearsal of partner support through each stage
🔹 What to pack, prep, and know ahead of time
🔹 The "golden hour" and supporting postpartum bonding + feeding
🔹 Building a postpartum care plan: food, rest, emotional support

Partner focus:

  • Practising calm touch, rhythm, and presence during each phase

  • What to do when “doing nothing” is actually helping

  • Supporting recovery and mental health in the early weeks

Take-home:

  • Birth rehearsal script (with key support prompts for partner)

  • Postnatal care planning worksheet

  • Oxytocin Toolkit PDF (environment, language, touch, tone, presence)
