The Doulas Way.
Holding space for a woman to birth in comfortably and safely is something that any doula will hold close to their heart.
Every doula I’ve met, or followed on social media, has their own unique way to hold, guide and love the women they support - and the families that surround them.
There are doulas who are midwives, doulas who teach hypnobirthing, yoga teaching doulas and doulas who are also lactation consultants.
There are doulas who use aromatherapy, homeopathy and massage, and doulas who use meditation, crystals and breath-work.
There are doulas who have rather splendid bags of crocheted boobs, marbles and pelvis’s, and doulas who travel light.
There are doulas who talk a lot about what they do, attending events and creating videos, and there are doulas who are like silent gifts, passed by word of mouth from one woman to another.
There are doulas who are mothers and the doulas who are artists, and the doulas who, above all else, ‘just make you feel safe’.
The book doulas, the podcast doulas and the lipstick doulas.
The inner city doulas, the rolling countryside doulas, doulas by the sea and doulas in the hills.
The doulas by bus and the doulas by bike, the doulas who’ve been there at 30 births and the doulas at the start.
What you’ll find is that whatever doula may doula you, they’ll all show a deep empathy and understanding for an event that is so powerful and transformative, it is to be held in its own magnificent power; with you and your baby at the heart of it.
That is the doulas way.
