Growing Something Special – My Infant Microbiome Book

Over the past months, I’ve been quietly working away on a project that means a great deal to me: a book all about the infant microbiome.

This work is deeply inspired by the incredible teachings of Toni Harman and Alex Wakeford, creators of the groundbreaking film Microbirth, which I’m proud to be qualified in. Their dedication to sharing vital knowledge about the microbiome’s impact on pregnancy, birth, and early life has shaped my approach and passion for this topic.

I’m especially excited about their new film launch, The Microbirth Plan — a virtual international conference that connects scientists with doulas, birth educators, midwives, and childbirth professionals worldwide. It’s a unique chance to bring the latest scientific discoveries straight into the hands of those supporting families through pregnancy, childbirth, and infant feeding.

My book aims to build on this momentum — offering an accessible, heart-led guide for parents and birth workers alike. The pages explore why the microbiome matters from the very first moments of life, and how early choices can have lifelong effects. It’s full of evidence, but written warmly and practically with my illustrations.

📣 Here’s how you can help:

  • Share this post with friends, colleagues, or your online community.

  • Follow and support The Microbirth Plan virtual conference to stay informed on cutting-edge research and global efforts to improve maternity care.

  • Let me know if you’d like to be part of my early reader group.

  • If you work in birth, postpartum, or infant health, I’d love to collaborate to get this into the hands of the families you support.

Your interest and support mean the world—it’s what will help this guide reach the people who need it most and contribute to accelerating positive change in global maternity care.

Thank you!
